Recently, the MTA proposed a payroll tax on all local employers. Senator Marcellino is opposed to this proposal because it would harm small businesses and lead to further job losses among Long Island’s workforce.Under the proposal, all Long Island employers, including not-for-profits and those who are self-employed, would have to pay one-third of one percent of wages to support the MTA, even if their employees do not use mass transit.Long Island’s economy has lost over 21,000 jobs since December 2007 and has an unemployment rate of 5.8%. Before enacting a tax increase that could lead to further layoffs, Senator Marcellino believes the MTA should find ways to reduce its own expenses, just as local families are being forced to do.Join Senator Marcellino in opposing the MTA's proposed payroll tax on local small businesses by filling out and submitting the form below.
